Hydrogen Water for Diabetes Treatment in Malaysia 2019

Diabetes is a major health problem among Malaysians. The standard recommendations for the treatment of diabetes involved diet and exercise (lifestyle modifications); and medication (oral or injectables). However, according to the National Diabetes Registry, only 23.8% of patients in primary care and 12.7% in tertiary institutions were able to achieve their specified glycaemic targets i.e. there is a lot of room for improvement in terms of management of diabetes.

Potential Benefits of Hydrogen Water for Diabetes

There is growing interest in the potential benefit of hydrogen water for diabetes treatment in Malaysia.

“Oxidative stress is widely recognized as being associated with a number of diseases, including type 2 diabetes. In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study on patients with either type 2 diabetes or impaired glucose tolerance, treatment with H2 rich water was associated with significant improvements in lipid and glucose metabolism, suggesting that hydrogen-rich water may have a beneficial role in the prevention of type 2 diabetes and insulin resistance.”
